 Living pictures

They say that one picture tells more than a thousand words. Let me tell you millions of stories with my videos.

I am no professional at this stuff, so have a soft eye and an open mind.

"How did you know how to make a video?" My mother asked.

"I didn't. Still don't".

I hope you enjoy them.

The Arrival and the Dream

With this video I wanted to reflect my emotions. You will find a lot of laughter, sincere joy and reflections of the fashinating newness of everything with a mixture of metaphors.

I was sweaty, tired and sore after 15 hours of sitting in the Matarmaja train, when the sun rose and lit the entire jungle we were riding through. The first sunrays woke me up from drowziness and I made my way to the open doorway of the train. What I found was a moment so beautiful, it brought a tear in my eye, and made the monsterous train trip all worth it.

I only had a vague idea of what was expecting me, once the train stops to it's final station in Malang. I was far away from home, I realized, when I saw a monkey sitting in his cage on the yard of some dodgy jungle house, made of scarp metal, bamboo sticks and rusty iron net. To me, it looked like any other house in that big jungle. To somebody, it was home, the only one of a kind. With a nice complimentary monkey on the yard.

What I found in Malang was beautiful. I found trustworthy, good people, with humble mind and a good cause. I found children with not much possession but even more dreams, enthusiasm and thanks be to the good people at Sanggar Sahabat Anak, possibilities.

Even though just a spectator in their lives, I feel privileged to witness such love I see when the young children carry their even younger sisters and brothers to the house, every day, to learn something new. All you need for what you want is that you make the most of what you got.

For those who wonder the meaning of the prayer in the beginning, that is what I woke up to every morning for the first week before I finally learned to ignore it. I live next to a mosque, you see.. and they pray five times every day.
